We at Bullfrog Pool Service try to inform all of you out there about different pieces of information important to you pool owners in Wilmington, NC.  If you live in Wilmington or close by and you have recently had a swimming pool built or installed at your home, it is important to update your homeowner’s insurance policy.  Or if you have not yet had a pool built or installed but are thinking about it, this article can be useful to you as well.

A swimming pool is not considered part of your “dwelling,” but rather an “other structure” like a shed or detached garage.  Usually, homeowner’s insurance policies cover 10% of  the amount written for your dwelling; for a typical swimming pool, this standard amount may not cover what you may need should damages occur to your pool.  Check out this article from insurance.com about updating and notifying your insurance company about your new investment. Pool Filtration Problems and Cartridge Filters

Dirty Cartridge Pool Filters

Old Dirty Cartridges Logo

Do you have a cartridge filter on your pool?  This picture is from one of the pools in Wilmington enrolled in one of our maintenance programs.  When we began regular maintenance on this pool, the circulation was very poor and the filtration was inadequate.  When we inquired to the pool owner as to when the previous pool service company had flushed or replaced the cartridges, he told us he had no recollection of them doing so.  Upon further investigation, we turned up these cartridges.  They looked to be original (8 years old) to the pool and were in terrible condition.  Not only were they impacted with debris and dead algae, but they were ripped and broken in parts, allowing particles to be blown through the filter back into the pool.  Obviously, this was the source of the poor circulation and filtration of the pool water.  Cartridge filters are a great type of filter, but the cartridges need to be inspected and flushed regularly to prevent premature wear and/or poor circulation.  At Bullfrog Pool Service, we stay on top of cartridge and DE (Diatomaceous Earth) filters by performing inspections and filter flushes whenever necessary.  Is your current service performing this on your filter?  Feel free to call us with any questions you may have concerning your cartridge or DE filter, and we will be happy to come out and give a free on-site consultation concerning your issue.  Visit us at http://www.bullfrogpoolservice.com/contact today to set up an appointment!  And thanks for stopping by!

Pool Repair on Cartridge Filters

We at Bullfrog Pool Service recently had a customer call us about a pump that wouldn’t turn on.  We went out to the residence, and realized her motor needed to be replaced.  We replaced the motor on the swimming pool pump.  We then noticed a crack about 4 inches long in the cartridge filter tank, causing a huge leak.  This was most likely caused by a prolonged period of high pressure from clogged filter cartridges.  If you take care of your own pool and you have a cartridge filter, make sure you keep an eye on the pressure and when it gets above normal, based on filter manufacturer specifications, take out the cartridges and flush them properly.  If you have a current swimming pool maintenance company taking care of you pool, make sure they are checking the pressure and regularly flushing your filter components regularly, so this does not happen to you.  And if you have any questions or would like a free on-site consultation and quote on any pool maintenance, service or repair in or around Wilmington, NC, just give us a call at (910) 622-1329 or visit our contact page at http://bullfrogpoolservice.com/contact.html today!
